Innovations in education: The department is implementing the international COIL project “Certification of Machines” for masters

Associate Professor of the Department of Automation, Metrology and Energy-Efficient Technologies of Karazin University, Anna Sergiyevna Grinchenko, successfully completed professional training and participated in the international online workshop Aurora COIL professional development online workshop 2026, organized by the Spanish University of Rovira i Virgili (URV) from June 2 to July 2, 2026. This intensive course was dedicated to best practices in developing joint international online projects (COIL) and integrating intercultural competences into curricula.
The training resulted in the development and launch of an innovative COIL project called “Certification of Machines”. The project will be implemented jointly with the Spanish partner - the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the URV, represented by lecturer Albert Fabregat Sanjuan. The joint project will start in the spring semester of the 2026/2027 academic year (from February to June) and will become an integral part of the educational process for masters in the specialty G6 "Information and Measurement Technologies" (OP "Quality, Standardization and Metrological Assurance") within the framework of the mandatory academic discipline "Certification and Conformity Assessment". Students of the course "Integrated Project 3" will participate from the Spanish side.
The project is built on a unique peer-to-peer consultancy model and will unite international teams of students with different roles:
- URV students (Spain) will act as Mechanical Design Engineers.
- Karazin University students (Ukraine) will act as Quality Assurance and Safety Compliance Officers.
Students will work together to design mechanical assemblies while developing regulatory compliance strategies for them. As part of the project, students will apply critical thinking and analytical logic to study advanced international and European standards:
This initiative is an extremely important step for the department, which allows us to integrate the best European practices directly into the educational process of our masters, providing them with practical experience working in international multidisciplinary teams and preparing them for the global challenges of the modern engineering market!
